I have the front loading model as well. I also have lost my keys and have forgotten the code a few times. There are two ways to open the box without a key.
Enter the wrong code several times until it beeps continuously. It will not stop beeping until the batteries run out. For me it took several days, almost a week and I had to put it in a box in the garage until it finally ran out of batteries. Once the batteries are dead use a 9volt on the side and enter 12341 and it should open. Option 2: This box has a serious security flaw. The locking pin sits horizontally and is held in place with a weak spring. If the box is dropped from about 3 feet onto its right side (onto a carpeted floor) the inertia of the locking pin continues toward the floor and the box just opens.

I have the front opening model, i'm sure it is similiar. If you can't find the key and you remember your old code, try it first.
Hold a 9 volt battery to the out side terminals and put your code in. If it has lost it's programing completely, then use the default code which is 12341. If you have lost your key and neither of these works, well, you are in trouble as there is no getting in it without the key or code. If you have managed to get into it and you just want to reprogram the number, there is a button inside of it somewhere. (Mine is just past the latch post straight in from it.) Hold the button down as you push in the 5 digit code that you want.
Do it a second time, button down, 5 number code. It should beep twice and then you are all set. Hope this helps.
