Ezdrummer Authorization Code Serial

From the Toontracks site: 'You do not need a live connection to authorize EZdrummer. You do however require a way to access the registration site to generate the response code, which can then be typed in the appropriate box in the program interface. 'Please note that the Computer ID computed by EZdrummer is dependent, among other things, on your network configuration. Therefore DO NOT authorize EZdrummer when your network is up if your workstation is intended to be used disconnected from the Internet and LAN. 'If the above scenario describes your situation start up EZdrummer with no active network connection and write down the Computer ID.

If you want or need to generate the response code from this same computer you can do so but you will need to disconnect from the Internet before the code is identified as valid.' Can some of you owners explain this? Maybe I'm totally stoner, but it sounds like they are saying, 'Whatever online/offline status your machine has when authorizing EZ Drummer, it must continue to have forever or you can't use this plug.' That can't be right -- can it? You mean, if I authorize the plug at home, where I am always online, then I can't take the machine to a gig, where I'm never online?!? Or if my internet connection goes out, then I can't use EZ Drummer?!?!? I can only PRAY that I am being completely nutters and missing the entire idea here.?!?:confused.

Just for the record, the guy from the store I always buy from has confirmed that what I originally thought was the case -- that whatever your online/offline status is when authorizing EZ Drummer 'dictates' whether or not you can use the plug or not!!! It sounds like some are able to 'work around' this (see Lumcas' post above) -- but it's beyond ridiculous, if that is really the requirements.

I still keep thinking I must be confused somehow -- really -- so PLEASE correct me, guys, if I've gotten this all wrong. For crying out loud -- my internet connection goes out, for example, and I can't use EZ Drummer?!?? Or what -- I'm supposed to authorize while offline, and then shut off my internet everytime I fire up EZ Drummer?!?

I've been waiting for a great, ready-to-go multi-sampled drum plug for YEARS -- I really have -- I keep hoping Spectrasonics will release one, by the way, but I doubt they will. This plug seems to sound good, and it's at a good price, too. But I travel too much, and have way too many problems with multiple connections/interfaces as it is to add another one -- especially something so stupid. I'll pass -- and hope they change that soon.:rolleyes. And another thing -- what does that have to do with SECURITY?!? I mean, honestly -- how does my online/offline status help ensure that I'm the person authorized to use the plug? I have NEVER heard of a plug that includes network-connection status as a determinant in authorization.

What's next -- 'When authorizing this plug, please wear the shirt you will have on when using it -- as from now on, the plug will only boot if you are wearing that particular shirt.' I really HOPE I'm just confused by this -- because it sounds crazy to me. They honestly need to change that little feature a.s.a.p. We've got ENOUGH draconian copy-protection crap already to start adding a new one. (not trying to be melodramatic -- sorry!:o ) (and by the way, I've got my credit card in hand, ready to BUY the thing -- this is the ONLY thing making me hesitate). Since I raised this issue here, I think it's only fair to Toontrack that I copy the response that their support posted to my questions on their forum: ********************************************** Hi, and thanks for your interest in EZ Drummer.

The Authorization scheme is (among things, I'm not a programmer, so I'm cutting it short) built around the machine configuration. Some users prefer to disable the network interface card while working with audio and then enable it when they need to access the Internet. The enabling/disabling of the NIC, makes it seem like there is or isn't a NIC, thus making it part or not part of the configuration summing up the machine ID.

Windows Xp Reborn Iso. If you never disable your NIC, you have no 'worries'. If you do and need to be able to run EZ Drummer with both NIC enabled and disabled, you simply generate two separate machine IDs and Authorize both. So, it has nothing to do with your online status. Hope to see you as a happy EZ Drummer customer.

Best Regards, John. Well, I wouldn't say it's 'crap' -- (uh, any more than ALL the challenge/response-type systems are crap). My problem is that I had read a great review from an online store -- it was very positive about EZ Drummer, 'great sounds, great value' etc. -- but it also said this: 'To get started, you register the product by creating an account at www.EZDrummer.com/register. This is done by entering a generated computer ID number along with the provided serial number found on the back of the CD case. Registration must be completed in order to get the program working, it won’t run until you have registered. You do have the option to copy down your machine’s ID number and authorize it from another computer, but I found out that if you authorize your computer online and use it offline or vice versa that the registration would be reset and you will have to authorize it again.'

Now, to ME, that sounds like what I thought originally -- that online/offline status, (and NOT just the status of the network card), is what causes the problem. So go figure. Anyway, I've heard it from the Toontrack support guy myself -- ONLINE STATUS DOES *NOT* MATTER -- what matters is whether or not you have disabled your network card. How often have I disabled my network card?

Basically NEVER. I guess some people do, obviously -- THOSE are the people who will have issues.. Since I raised this issue here, I think it's only fair to Toontrack that I copy the response that their support posted to my questions on their forum: ********************************************** Hi, and thanks for your interest in EZ Drummer. Hope to see you as a happy EZ Drummer customer. Best Regards, John Does it really have to come to this?????????? People make drummer jokes all the time, perhaps it's time to make jokes about software drummers. Q: How many software drummers does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A: None, They're not authorized to. Q: How many megabytes does a drum sample library use?

A: 1 meg for the sample of the log the monkey bashes and 650 megs for the copy protection. Darren PS I'm a drummer. Hi - I appreciate the humorous tone, I guess you have been on the end of one too many dubious drummer jokes. I hesitate to say it's a good excuse to take a cheap shot at people that, despite what you might think, are not trying to make drummers redundant;-) Anyway as per John's reply the NIC is part of the configuration that is taken into account.

If your system stealths the hardware when you take the workstation offline, as XP does, it's hardly surprising that it appears to be a different one. In reply to the very pertinent comment that the scheme could have been independent from NIC that is absolutely correct but this has other drawbacks. Trying to roll a ghost backup of your hard drive should convince you that this is indeed a very valid alternative to HD fingerprinting.

We do like to reward people who take the time to do the sensible thing and backup their data. I just wanted to come and reassure all that, as much as copy protection are an hindrance (but a necessary evil), EZdrummer's scheme is as unintrusive as possible. More to the point it will not let you down in crisis scenario unlike most challenge response system (and without the cost inherent to hardware key). In conclusion there seem to be a lot of concerns about this rare - one time only - double authorization required for a minority of users yet, by definition, few occurrences of this PC only issue. While I'm sure there will be plenty to argue on the subject I can guarantee that no actual EZdrummer user will come and post a testimony of the Apocalypse described in the theoretical discussion that may ensue. Thank you for your support. Best Regards, Rogue Marechal Toontrack Music.

.While I'm sure there will be plenty to argue on the subject I can guarantee that no actual EZdrummer user will come and post a testimony of the Apocalypse described in the theoretical discussion that may ensue. Nevertheless, you're apt to scare off any potential future users with such a cumbersome scheme. I'm on a laptop and frequently dis/enable my NIC. I run plenty of software based off of challenge/response and nary a hiccup.

I won't purchase anything that requires a dongle either. Thanks to the OP for the heads-up on this. If you never disable your NIC, you have no 'worries'. Best Regards, John I feel the urge to jump in on this one, as the original post-er. I'll begin by saying that since the time of this thread (Sept of 2006!), I actually bought EZ Drummer, and have almost all the EZX expansions. I have also bought Superior Drummer 2.0, which is basically EZ Drummer on steroids.

So far, I love them both, and *highly* recommend them. That says a LOT about how I feel, and how my questions were answered in this thread and at the Toontrack forums.

I still feel slightly uneasy about the NIC dis/able issue, but HONESTLY, Toontrack does give you 4 authorizations right out of the box. If you are turning the card on and off, just use TWO of those (authorize it once with NIC on, once with it off), and then you're good to go either way. I would suspect there aren't that many in this situation of turning their NIC on and off all the time (of course, the ones who do it -- mostly people on laptops, I guess -- will protest that there are LOTS of people who do it). But I would bet there aren't really that many.

But if you fall into that camp, well, it's not so much trouble to authorize it twice. For me, I think it's not so intrusive a scheme as to be a deal-breaker. MEANWHILE, I'm enjoying using both EZ Drummer *and* Superior Drummer 2.0!;). This is a rather ridiculous copy protection scheme. I worry about all of the stuff I have deprnding upon dongles, licenses, upgrade patches. I use a ton of the older EW products like the choirs etc.

I wonder if my machine went down would I be able to rebuild a new one with the same programs, patches, etc. Since EW moved on to Play, and I am not interested in updating to the Play interface, I might not be able to find the updated software patches online for the older versions.

I think Toontrack has missed the boat on this form of protection. Isn't it enough to have us register and put in the serial number etc. Now Easydrummer will not work if you are not online etc.

As always the honest guys pay the price. Re: 'I wonder if my machine went down would I be able to rebuild a new one with the same programs, patches, etc.' ---Of course you could.as long as your iLok was okay. I've had the same software on 3 consecutive computers, with no problems at all. You are backing up your current installations and custom presets etc.

Anyway, aren't you?:) Re:' Since EW moved on to Play, and I am not interested in updating to the Play interface, I might not be able to find the updated software patches online for the older versions' ---Well, with respect, I suggest that's just plain silly. First you should be storing and backing up any patches you might need anyway. Updates for the NI related stuff is still available from NI.

I have nearly all the Play products, library updates are available from the web site, and Play updates are issued regularly as well. Re: 'I think Toontrack has missed the boat on this form of protection.

Isn't it enough to have us register and put in the serial number etc. Now Easydrummer will not work if you are not online etc.' ---Again, I suggest this is 'making a mountain out of a molehill'. I also own and use nearly all the Toontrack products, and EZDrummer and some of the EZXs have also been installed on three consecutives machines without any licencing problems at all. It was simply a matter of deactivating a licence for a machine that was no longer used, and getting a new activation code. I've never had a single problem doing that.

Also the folks at Toontracks are some of the best when it comes to customer support, and always have been more than willing to help customers with legitimate problems. If someone is having a problem for any reason, why not contact them or visit the Toontrack forum?..playz. I think Toontrack has missed the boat on this form of protection.

Isn't it enough to have us register and put in the serial number etc. Now Easydrummer will not work if you are not online etc. As always the honest guys pay the price.

Darren Yeah -- see, the thing is, that was exactly my original question (OVER 2 YEARS AGO when I started this thread). It seems crazy right?

BECAUSE IT *IS* -- it's crazy, and it's *not* how it works. As has been stated earlier in the thread: THE TOONTRACK COPY PROTECTION DOES **NOT** DEPEND ON WHETHER YOU ARE ONLINE OR NOT, per se. It depends on whether you have your NIC enabled or disabled -- and if you switch back and forth between enabling and disabling your NIC for some reason, then you just have to authorize the plug twice on that machine if you want it to be usable in both configurations. It's LITERALLY just a few clicks to do that. I think that's stated clearly if you read the whole thread -- but since this thread has been revived (by someone posting an utterly and completely non-related question to a 2-year-old topic), I can understand how someone might come here and somehow miss the facts. I hope no more.:p (I'm not a Toontrack employee, just a customer, so if someone needs to correct me, please do -- but this is my understanding, from what I learned on THIS thread as well as on the Toontrack support forums 2 years ago).

EZ drummer EXZ download install RESOLVED Bought this Vintage Rock expansion download(only serial number) last night, received the serial number, authorization code and can't find the 'authorization sceen' to activate the kit and loops. When I open EZ drummer I only have the Pop rock and cocktail kits. Can't find an executable for the vintage kit, or even any evidence of it at all on my pc, including the toontrack/ez drummer file. Scanned VST(and I) folders, did everything I can think of. I've searched this forum as well as toontracks' but.to no avail, as well as emailed toontracks.

Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert Anthony. Bought this Vintage Rock expansion download Ware did you download it to?? Did you put ware the other packs are?? No need to scan the VST scan. Its not a VST, its an expansion pack Can't find an executable for the vintage kit, or even any evidence of it at all on my pc, including the toontrack/ezdrummer file.

Scanned VST just doing the vst scan will do nothing, especially if you do not scan the right place. You need to configure the scan to scan the folder location of the ezdrummer. Your probably just scanner the cakewalk vst folder Cj. Well I figured out what I did- I ordered the 'serial number only' instead of the 'online download.'

Partially my mistake but also very little information on the toontrack site- and very little support as well, despite their numerous faq's section and forum. Still not sure what the 'serial number only' package I ordered is- they have my info as far as what software of theirs I have (it's in my products page) and I would have thought they could have steered me to the correct product, but they sure took my $89.00. Still waiting for their reply to 3 emails, other than one I sent yesterday in which they basically ignored my question. Oh well, I guess I learned something today. Robert Anthony. Log in to the toontrack.com site and go to the Users Area. Then click the My Products button.

Then click the Register New Product button. Then enter your serial number and click Submit. Then go back to My Products and you should see the product listed along with Download: PC and Mac buttons. Best, Scott -- Scott R.

ToonTrack has converted to a new sales system. If you buy any of their products through the retail channel, you get a box full of CDs containing all their products. I bought EZDrummer in Jan at GC on sale. GC has their POS computer set up to issue a serial number on the receipt. (They say that they can retrieve it for you if you lose the receipt.) You install the product from the CD and go through the authorization and update process.

If I want buy another TT product, I buy a serial number from GC or the TT website and install it from the CD. Evidently it's worth it to have only one sku. Robert - I hope you can come back and help me with this! I am having the exact same problem with S2.0 that I bought at GC. But I didn't get ANY disks from GC like Murray said, all I got was the license code. Did you finally get them to answer your emails? Where are you emailing them?

Can I call them and get them to fix this? I was able to download the S2.0 engine, but no content!!! I want the content that I paid for! If you or anyone else can help me find the way to contact them to get them to give me a link to download the content I would greatly appreciate it!
